Journal Entry
I chose the design that I did because I wanted to show and express some things I did over the summer holidays. Also, I thought that this design would look best when converted to a 3D model. This summer, I ate a lot of ice-cream. Ice-cream itself holds many memories because of the various things I did during summer break while eating ice-cream. So far I think I am doing fairly well, although it took me three times to get the cone nice. The cone now looks like a cup so I am a bit worried, because my sculpture now looks like a cupcake. I am planning to just keep it as it, but add more elements on the top because my sculpture doesn't reach 30 cm and could use some more detail such as sprinkles or syrup. I might also add another swirl of ice-cream, so that my sculpture will look like a cup of ice-cream instead of a cupcake.
Final Reflection
What I have created represents my theme because it is a sculpture of ice-cream, with a cone and ice-cream that consists of vivid colors that capture the summer mood. My final sculpture does represent the ideas that I wanted to get across. I think that my piece is successful as a 3D Dimensional piece of art because it can be measured in three different directions, the height, width, and length. Some changes that I had to make when I actually created my sculpture out of wire was the height. In my sketch, there was only one level on the cone, and there was a moon and star that shaped out from the ice-cream. I had to make two levels for the cone because my sculpture did not meet the required height. I also had to change the moon and star by removing them completely, because the thin wire shape would not have been enough to support the whole ice-cream cone. Instead I created a cherry at the top, with a stem so that the ice-cream could hang from it. The most challenging part was creating the cone. It was difficult to create a smooth cone that didn't look bulky. I joined 2 wires together by wrapping one wire with the other. It was especially difficult to join the wire of the ice-cream and the cone because I had to maintain the shape of the ice-cream while still wrapping it around so it could be secured to the cone. I think that the best element about my sculpture is the ice-cream itself, because it is a very delicate coil of wire that captures the light, fluffy texture of the soft ice-cream. It is also the part I like the most about my sculpture. I put in all my effort into this project, by trying to improve elements as well as looking over and touching up parts several times.
